One of the most memorable moments was walking down the aisle, seeing Matt’s big smile light up his face and all our family and friends look so happy with the beautiful Manor in the background. We also met for a “first look” photography session at a nearby castle ruins, which was the first time we saw each other in our gown / tuxedo. It was magical.

The Proposal //

It all began at a Harry Potter-themed dinner party when Matt asked Erica, “Would you be a ‘LAMB’ and pass me the potatoes?” before even knowing her or that her last name was ‘Lam’. After that funny encounter they soon discovered that they had a lot in common beyond fantasy novels. They both worked in finance in Hong Kong but had previously lived in New York and Chicago. Matt was from Virginia and Erica was from Hong Kong but had worked and studied in the US. They frequently experienced FOMO (fear of missing out) and were incapable of turning down a (costume) party. Their passion for travel and adventure brought them around the world and closer together. Exactly three years after they met, on their favorite hiking trail in Hong Kong, Matt backed Erica to the edge of a cliff and gave her two options. She chose to LIVE……. happily ever after with the man of her dreams! And what better way to start off this new journey as a married couple than to share good times (and good beers) with their favorite people in Ireland. Ireland was a special place for Matt’s family who had originally emigrated from there to America many generations ago. After a castle tour around the beautiful country and discovering the magnificent Adare Manor, Erica was fully on board and there was no other place they wanted to have their dream wedding.

The Plan //

We knew that we wanted to get married in a castle in Ireland where all our guests could stay so we made a list of venues that met our criteria and planned a trip to Ireland to visit these venues. After visiting each place in person and gathering all the information we needed, we quickly decided that Adare Manor was our favorite. As we were based in Hong Kong, we did a lot of the research online and found most of our vendors from our wedding planner to photographer on an excellent wedding website, One Fab Day. It’s really important to do your research and contact your vendors directly to make sure that they fit your style and everyone is on the same page.

Hiring a Wedding Videographer //

This is the most important investment! You and your family will have the video for a lifetime and it really captures all the beautiful moments, many of which you may have missed because of how busy it gets on your wedding day.  We would also recommend considering a cinematographer to join other events during the weekend, to capture the full experience.  Story of Eve joined us for a Chinese Tea Ceremony and the welcome dinner.  Go with Story of Eve!
